Ware County Schools is notifying families of a correction to the Middle School Student Handbook regarding promotion requirements for students in grades 6–8.
During a review of the handbook, we identified that the promotion requirements published on pages 61–62 did not reflect the Board-approved language currently in effect. The correct requirements are as follows:
Grades 6–7
A student in grades 6 or 7 shall be promoted to the next grade level if he or she passes:
Mathematics;
Language Arts;
At least one of the following: Science or Social Studies; and
A minimum of 75% of the Connections courses in which the student is enrolled during the school year.
Grade 8
A student in grade 8 shall be promoted to the next grade level if, in addition to meeting state-mandated requirements, he or she passes:
Mathematics;
Language Arts;
Science;
Social Studies; and
A minimum of 75% of the Connections courses in which the student is enrolled during the school year.
The online Middle School Student Handbook will be updated to reflect the correct Board-approved promotion requirements.
We appreciate your attention to this correction and encourage families with questions about a student’s academic progress to contact their child’s school.
