Ware County Schools proudly recognized outstanding employees during the district's 2026–2027 Opening Session, celebrating the educators, support professionals, and school leaders whose dedication makes a lasting difference in the lives of students.
Each school selected a Teacher of the Year and Staff Member of the Year, honoring individuals chosen by their peers for their professionalism, commitment, and positive impact on their school communities. These recognitions celebrate the everyday moments that define public education—supporting students, encouraging colleagues, solving problems, and creating school cultures where everyone can thrive.
Following the school-level recognitions, two districtwide awards were presented.
District Teacher of the Year: Jenna Brooks, Memorial Drive Elementary School
Jenna Brooks was selected as the 2026–2027 Ware County Schools District Teacher of the Year for her unwavering commitment to helping every child believe in their ability to succeed. Her student-centered approach, dedication to building confidence, and passion for meeting the individual needs of every learner exemplify the very best of the teaching profession. She will represent Ware County Schools in the Georgia Teacher of the Year program.
District Staff Member of the Year: Scott Raulerson, Williams Heights Elementary School
Scott Raulerson was named the 2026–2027 Ware County Schools District Staff Member of the Year in recognition of his servant leadership and lifelong commitment to helping others. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated humility, compassion, and a willingness to step forward wherever he is needed. He will represent Ware County Schools in the Georgia RISE (Recognizing Inspirational School Employees) Award program.
Inaugural Leader of the Year: David Hitt, Waycross Middle School
This year also marked the introduction of a new district recognition: the Leader of the Year Award, honoring school leaders who exemplify vision, servant leadership, and a steadfast commitment to creating environments where students and staff can thrive.
Mr. Hitt was recognized for his exceptional leadership in guiding the successful opening of Waycross Middle School, the first new school opened in Ware County in more than 30 years. From staffing and scheduling to procedures and daily operations, he led the tremendous undertaking with humility, careful planning, and an unwavering commitment to students and staff.
