Ruskin PBIS Team

Ruskin Elementary School has been recognized recently as a “PBIS Distinguished School” for its implementation of PBIS. PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is an evidence-based, three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day.

“It is an honor to be recognized as a Distinguished PBIS School,” said Donna Solomon, principal of Ruskin Elementary. “Our staff has done an exceptional job with continuing the work to build and sustain a positive learning environment and school culture for our students, families, community members, and themselves. I am grateful to have such a dynamic group of teachers, paraprofessionals, front office staff, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, and administrative team who all do their part to ensure that we implement PBIS consistently and with fidelity.”

The purpose of the “PBIS Distinguished School” recognition is to identify schools that exemplify best practices in the implementation of PBIS. The level of distinction is based on the tiered training that the school has completed and the number of discipline referrals per year. Distinguished schools meet 6 out of 6 areas on the PBIS rubric.

When implemented properly, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and the overall school climate. More than 1,400 Georgia schools and 27,000 nationwide have been trained in PBIS.

Superintendent Bert Smith commented, "This remarkable achievement for Ruskin Elementary reflects the commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, teachers, and staff. We are immensely proud of the dedication and hard work of our entire school community in promoting positive behavior and ensuring the success of our students.”
