Science Fair 2023

On Friday, February 3, 2023 several of Mrs. Shepard’s 4th and 5th grade WINGS students participated in the science fair at South Georgia State College (SGSC) in Douglas, GA. Their day was filled with lots of memorable events starting with a presentation showcasing fascinating facts about the Okefenokee swamp’s animals and plants and their importance to our ecosystem.  The students were then entertained by another presenter, Wacky Science. During this program, the students learned about the connection of math to physical and life science through exciting, hands-on experiments. Finally, the students awaited eagerly for the awards presentation to begin. It was there that they discovered lots of second and third place ribbons on their boards. The biggest surprise was when Willow and Scarlett R. received an Honorable Mention trophy overall (for the entire 4th grade) for their project titled, “Electric Apple.” After that, students were shocked again when students Hailey & Zachary C. won a second place trophy overall for their project named, “Foody Battery.” All in all, it was a great experience filled with wonderful memories and lots of learning.  Both students and parents are commended for helping make this a wonderful experience!
