Waycross Middle School is excited to welcome Dr. Peggy Jones as Assistant Principal for the 2026–2027 school year.
For Dr. Jones, this opportunity represents a return to the school where her educational career began. After working at International Paper as a Purchasing Agent while earning her Bachelor's Degree in Business from Georgia Southern University, she discovered a passion for education and completed her educator certification through Armstrong State University.
Since entering education in 2004, Dr. Jones has served Ware County students in a variety of roles, including 11 years as an 8th grade math teacher at Waycross Middle School, Algebra I teacher and assistant principal at Ware County High School, and assistant principal at Wacona Elementary School. She also served as the district inventory analyst. Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to earn a Master's Degree from Troy University, a Specialist Degree from Kennesaw State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from American College of Education.
Dr. Jones describes her leadership style as one centered on support, consistency, and service.
"I lead by example and strive to give my best each day," she said. "My goal is to support teachers so they can effectively meet their students' needs. I believe in leading with fairness, friendliness, and consistency."
She believes strong school cultures are built through teamwork and positive relationships, noting that even something as simple as a smile can make a meaningful difference in a student's day. When asked what she hopes students feel when they walk into school, her answer was simple: loved.
As she joins the Bulldog family, Dr. Jones is especially excited about returning to her educational roots and helping students thrive in the district's beautiful new middle school campus.
Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren, cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs, and dreaming about a future cruise through the Hawaiian Islands with her husband.
