February Bulletin Board

Each month, a school is featured and showcased at the Ware County Board of Education. Since, February is Black History Month, Center Elementary Staff chose to highlight Alma Woodsey Thomas, an African American artist, and teacher who was born in Columbus, GA.  Ms. Thomas later lived in Washington DC, and is now recognized as a major American painter of the 20th century.

In the lobby of the Ware County Board of Education, visitors and staff can admire the bulletin board created by Center art teacher, Mrs. Kim Smith. The board features a variety of Center Elementary students' artwork replicating Thomas's style and technique. The following quote is also displayed and reflects the positive impact her work had on the people who followed her work and continues to impact us today.

"The use of color in my paintings is of paramount importance to me. Through color, I have sought to concentrate on beauty and happiness, rather than on man's inhumanity to man." -Alma Thomas
