Ware County’s sub-varsity football teams were back in action Thursday, October 1, with the 9th Grade Gators hosting Calvary Day and the JV Gators traveling to Brunswick for a matchup with Glynn Academy.

The 9th Grade Gators welcomed Calvary Day’s JV team to Memorial Stadium in Waycross. Ware County battled throughout the contest but ultimately fell to the visiting Cavaliers.

While the 9th Grade Gators competed at home, the JV Gators continued their impressive season on the road, defeating Glynn Academy 13-6 to improve to 5-1 with one game remaining on the schedule.

JV Gators Make the Plays When It Matters

Ware County found the end zone through the air when Ryder Gilbert connected with Brodie Burchett for a touchdown, providing the Gators with a crucial scoring strike against a physical Glynn Academy defense.

The Gators later added what proved to be the deciding touchdown when De’Shavius Gibson broke free for a long scoring run.

Ware County also received a strong all-around performance from Kieran Brown. Brown made plays both on the ground and through the air, picking up several important first downs and helping the Gators extend drives and control key stretches of the game.

Defense Answers the Call

While the offense produced the points, the Ware County defense delivered when it mattered most.

The Gators came up with timely stops throughout the night and limited Glynn Academy to just six points. In a game separated by one touchdown, Ware County’s ability to get off the field in critical situations played a major role in securing the victory.

Hayes Sweat also provided a steady performance while handling the kicking duties for the Gators. His work in the kicking game helped Ware County manage field position and take advantage of its scoring opportunities.

The 13-6 victory gives the JV Gators another road win and sends them into the final week of their season with an impressive 5-1 record.

Up Next

Both Ware County sub-varsity teams will close out their schedules against Tift County on Thursday, October 8.

The 9th Grade Gators will host Tift at Memorial Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 PM.

The JV Gators will travel to Tift County High School for their season finale, also scheduled for 5:00 PM. Ware County will look to finish an already strong JV campaign with one more victory.
