The Ware County Lady Gators made the most of a Monday afternoon at Gator Field, sweeping a non-region doubleheader against Charlton County on September 28. Ware County claimed the opener, 8-5, before breaking the second game open early on the way to a 17-2 victory.

Game 1: Ware County 8, Charlton County 5

Ware County struck first in the opener, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. Kara Coleman delivered an RBI single down the right-field line, and Mattie Forsyth brought home another run with a groundout to give the Lady Gators an early 2-0 advantage.

Charlton County answered and eventually moved in front 3-2 in the third inning, but Ware County responded with a big fourth.

Teriayn Kirkland worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run before Reagan Middleton came through with one of the biggest swings of the game, driving a two-run triple. Addi Pittman followed with an RBI single as the Lady Gators surged ahead 6-4.

Ware County added enough insurance from there to secure the 8-5 victory.

Kirkland worked five innings in the circle, allowing five hits and five runs, only two of which were earned. She struck out three and walked two. Middleton took over in relief and closed the door, allowing just one hit over two scoreless innings while striking out four.

Middleton also led Ware County with two RBIs. Pittman and Forsyth finished with two hits apiece, while the Lady Gators showed patience throughout the lineup by drawing six walks.

Ware County also created pressure on the bases, finishing with seven stolen bases. Natalie Pittman led that effort with two steals.

Game 2: Ware County 17, Charlton County 2

The Lady Gators wasted little time taking control of the nightcap.

Ware County sent run after run across the plate in an 11-run first inning, using a combination of timely hitting, walks, aggressive baserunning and Charlton County miscues to build a commanding advantage.

Cassidy Lee drove in two runs with a single, while Natalie Pittman added an RBI single. Kirkland brought home another run by drawing a walk, Middleton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Addi Pittman worked a run-scoring walk. Genesis Walker's at-bat resulted in two more runs crossing the plate, and Forsyth added another RBI.

The Lady Gators weren't finished.

Ware County pushed six more runs across in the second inning to extend the lead to 17-0. The Lady Gators continued to put pressure on Charlton County by getting runners on base and taking advantage of opportunities when they came.

Middleton handled the pitching duties and went all three innings for Ware County. She allowed four hits and two unearned runs while striking out three without issuing a walk.

Walker and Coleman each finished with two RBIs to help lead the Lady Gators offensively. Lee, Natalie Pittman and Kirkland each recorded a hit, while Kirkland drew a team-high two walks. Ware County collected six walks in the game.

The 17-2 victory completed the doubleheader sweep and capped a productive day at Gator Field for the Lady Gators.
