The Ware County Lady Gators traveled to Brunswick on Wednesday, September 23, for a non-region matchup with the Brunswick High Pirates, falling 4-2 in a competitive contest.

After two scoreless innings, Brunswick broke through with four runs in the bottom of the third. The Pirates used a combination of timely hits, a wild pitch and a Ware County defensive miscue to take a 4-0 advantage.

Ware County responded in the top of the fourth when Teriayn Kirkland launched a solo home run to center field, putting the Lady Gators on the board. Ware continued to battle and added another run, but Brunswick was able to protect its lead through the final inning.

Kirkland also handled the pitching duties for Ware County, working five innings and allowing four runs, only two of which were earned. She struck out three and did not issue a walk.

Offensively, Cassidy Lee, Reagan Middleton, Teriayn Kirkland and Mattie Forsyth each recorded a hit for the Lady Gators. Middleton and Kirkland each drove in a run.

The loss moves Ware County's attention back to Region 1-AAAAA competition as the Lady Gators return home to Gator Field on Thursday, September 24, to host the Statesboro Lady Blue Devils.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Tickets are $8.00 and may be purchased online through GoFan or at the gate. Fans unable to attend can watch the game live on the NFHS Network.

Fans attending the game are reminded that the Ware County Schools Clear Bag Policy will be in effect. The Parental Supervision Policy will also be enforced, and parents and guardians are asked to ensure that children and students in their care are appropriately supervised throughout the event.
