The Ware County Gators opened Region 1-AAAAA play in impressive fashion Friday night, September 18, defeating the Groves High School Rebels 68-6 at Memorial Stadium in Waycross.
Ware County came out firing from the opening kickoff, building a 33-0 advantage in the first quarter before adding 21 more points in the second. The Gators carried a 54-0 lead into halftime and added 14 points in the third quarter on the way to the 68-6 victory.
The win moved Ware County to 2-2 overall and, more importantly, 1-0 in Region 1-AAAAA play.
Friday night was about more than football at Memorial Stadium. Ware County Athletics recognized Childhood Cancer Awareness Night, joining together to show support for children and families impacted by childhood cancer.
It was also Recreation Night at The Swamp, as Ware County welcomed young athletes from throughout the community to Memorial Stadium. The evening provided an opportunity to recognize the next generation of Gators and celebrate the important role recreation programs play in building the future of Ware County Athletics.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Memorial Stadium and helped make it a special night for our student-athletes, families, recreation programs, and community.
