The Ware County Lady Gators welcomed Camden County to Gator Field on Tuesday, September 15, for an evening of JV and varsity softball action. While the final scores did not go Ware County's way, the Lady Gators showed plenty of fight - especially during a seventh-inning rally that brought the varsity game down to the final outs.

The JV Lady Gators opened the day against Camden County and battled throughout the contest before falling 9-4.

Lady Gators Make a Run at It in the Seventh

The varsity matchup saw Camden County take control during the middle innings, but Ware County never allowed the game to get completely out of reach.

Camden County put together a four-run third inning to grab the early advantage. The Lady Gators continued working to get themselves back into the game but entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 8-2.

Ware County wasn't finished.

The Lady Gators put together their biggest offensive surge of the night when they needed it most. A combination of timely hitting and productive at-bats brought four runs home and quickly turned a six-run deficit into an 8-6 game.

The comeback ultimately ended two runs short, but Ware County forced Camden County to earn the victory all the way through the final out.

The Lady Gators finished with 10 hits compared to Camden County's seven, giving Ware County several positives to build on offensively.

Darah Durrance had a big night at the plate, collecting a team-high three hits. Teriayn Kirkland added two hits and drove in three runs, while Genesis Walker and Kara Coleman also recorded multiple hits.

Kirkland handled all seven innings in the circle for Ware County. She finished the night with six strikeouts, allowing seven hits and five earned runs.

Camden County held off the late Ware County charge to take the varsity contest, 8-6.
