The Ware County Lady Gators Volleyball program hit the road Monday afternoon for a non-region play date at Appling County, getting another opportunity to compete before returning to Region 1-AAAAA action.
JV Gold opened the day for Ware County and continued to battle throughout its match despite falling in straight sets. The Lady Gators stayed competitive and continued to fight from beginning to end, gaining valuable court experience along the way.
At the varsity level, Ware County found itself in two hard-fought matches. The Lady Gators pushed both contests to a deciding third set but were unable to close them out, coming up just short in each match.
Although the final results did not go Ware County's way, the Lady Gators showed plenty of fight throughout the afternoon and continued to compete when the matches got tight.
One of the highlights of the day came from Vallery Carter, who stepped into a new role at libero for the varsity Lady Gators. Carter answered the challenge with a strong effort, hustling after loose balls, diving to keep points alive and doing whatever was needed to help her teammates.
Her willingness to take on a new position and compete for her team was a bright spot for Ware County as the Lady Gators continue through the heart of their schedule.
There won't be much time to dwell on Monday's results.
Ware County returns home Tuesday, September 15, for an important Region 1-AAAAA play date against Statesboro* and Jenkins* inside the Gator Den. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Admission is $8.00, with tickets available online through GoFan or for purchase at the gate.
Fans attending Tuesday's matches are reminded that Ware County's Clear Bag Policy will be in effect. The Parental Supervision Policy will also be enforced, and parents and guardians are asked to make sure children attending the event are properly supervised throughout the evening.
Can't make it to the Gator Den? The matches are scheduled to be streamed live on the NFHS Network, giving Gator Nation another way to follow the Lady Gators.
With region competition back on the schedule, Ware County will look to turn Monday's hard-fought experience into a strong showing on its home floor.
