The Ware County Gators returned to Memorial Stadium in Waycross on Friday, September 11, for a hard-fought non-region matchup with the Richmond Hill Wildcats. In a game dominated by defense, the Gators battled for four quarters before coming up just short, 13-7.

Ware County entered the night looking to build on its early-season schedule against a Richmond Hill squad that arrived in Waycross unbeaten. The Gators answered the challenge with a strong defensive performance, holding the Wildcats to just 13 points and keeping the outcome in doubt throughout the night.

The six-point margin was a significant change from the last meeting between the programs, when Ware County defeated Richmond Hill 28-7 in August 2023. This time, however, the Wildcats were able to make enough plays to escape The Swamp with the victory.

Despite the setback, Ware County continued to show its ability to compete in close, physical football games. The Gators' defense gave the offense opportunities throughout the contest.

The loss moves the Gators to 1-2 on the season, while Richmond Hill improves to 4-0.

With the non-region portion of the schedule now behind them, the Gators can turn their full attention toward the games that will determine the Region 1-AAAAA standings and postseason positioning.
