Week of September 7, 2026
WAYCROSS, GA - Following a weekend with no athletic contests to report, Ware County Athletics turns its attention to a busy week ahead as the Gators and Lady Gators prepare for competition across several sports.
Labor Day Monday will provide one final quiet day before the schedule picks up Tuesday and continues through Saturday. Softball, volleyball, cross country, and football will all be in action during the week, with several opportunities for Gator Nation to support the Green and Gold at home.
Lady Gator Softball Opens the Week at Gator Field
The week of competition begins Tuesday, September 8, when Lady Gator Varsity Softball welcomes Appling County to Gator Field.
First pitch between the Lady Gators and Lady Pirates is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
On Wednesday, September 9, the JV Lady Gators will take their turn on the diamond as they travel to Long County. Ware County and the Lady Blue Tide are scheduled for a 4:30 PM first pitch.
Thursday Features a Full Slate of Gator Athletics
Thursday, September 10, will be one of the busiest days of the week, with Ware County teams competing in softball, cross country, football, and volleyball.
At Gator Field, Lady Gator Varsity Softball returns to region competition as Ware County hosts Evans in a Region 1-AAAAA doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
Ware County Cross Country will travel to Jeff Davis for a multi-team meet beginning at 5:00 PM.
On the football field, the 9th Grade Gators will welcome Camden County to Waycross for a 5:00 PM kickoff. At the same time, the JV Gators will be on the road at Camden County, with their matchup against the Wildcats also scheduled for 5:00 PM.
Lady Gator Volleyball will make the short trip to Wayne County for another important region contest. Matches are scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
Gator Football Returns to The Swamp Friday Night
Ware County Athletics will have plenty to follow on Friday, September 11, beginning with Lady Gator Softball.
The varsity Lady Gators will travel to Columbus for weekend tournament action, opening play against Columbus High School at 4:00 PM.
Friday night will then bring varsity football back to Waycross.
After an open week, the Ware County Gators return to Memorial Stadium - The Swamp - to host the Richmond Hill Wildcats in a non-region showdown.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
The matchup provides Gator Nation another opportunity to fill Memorial Stadium and create the home-field atmosphere that has become a tradition on Friday nights in The Swamp.
Weekend Action Continues Saturday
The week concludes Saturday, September 12, with softball and volleyball action.
Lady Gator Varsity Softball remains in Columbus for a pair of games, beginning with Rockmart at 9:00 AM. Ware County will return to the field at 11:00 AM to face St. Pius and close out its weekend tournament schedule.
Back home in Waycross, the JV Lady Gator Volleyball Team will host Volley in the Swamp. Tournament action is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.

Tuesday - Varsity Softball vs. Appling: $10.00
Thursday - Varsity Softball Doubleheader vs. Evans: $12.00
Thursday - 9th Grade Football vs. Camden County: $8.00
Friday - Varsity Football vs. Richmond Hill: $10.00
Tickets will be available online through GoFan or may be purchased at the gate.
