WAYCROSS, Ga. - September 3, 2026 - The Ware County Lady Gators Volleyball program returned home to the Gator Den Thursday afternoon, welcoming the Colquitt County Lady Packers for a full slate of varsity and junior varsity action.
While the final results did not fall Ware County’s way, the Lady Gators continued to show determination and fight throughout the evening. With several players currently working through injuries, Ware County used the matches as another opportunity to gain valuable experience, develop its younger players, and continue preparing for the important region contests ahead.
Varsity Lady Gators Battle Through Adversity
The Varsity Lady Gators entered Thursday’s match shorthanded due to injuries but refused to let adversity dictate their effort. Ware County battled Colquitt County throughout the match before ultimately falling in straight sets.
Despite having to adjust the lineup, the Lady Gators continued competing and fighting for points until the final whistle. Marlee Livingston and Abrielle Lancaster provided strong performances for Ware County, making an impact with their serving and setting throughout the match.
With region competition continuing to be the primary focus, the Lady Gators will look to use the coming days to get healthy, sharpen their execution, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
JV Green Shows Fight in Close Second Set
The JV Green Lady Gators continued to show promise Thursday, particularly during a competitive second set against Colquitt County.
After dropping the opening set 25-17, Ware County responded with a much stronger performance in the second. The Lady Gators battled point-for-point with the Lady Packers before Colquitt County narrowly escaped with a 25-23 victory to take the match in straight sets.
The close second set showed what the Lady Gators are capable of when they limit unforced mistakes and maintain consistency.
Zhniya Lawrence delivered one of the standout performances of the match, providing a strong presence at the net and putting away several kills for Ware County.
JV Gold Gains Valuable Experience
Ware County’s JV Gold Lady Gators also took the court against Colquitt County and continued gaining valuable match experience. The Lady Packers claimed the contest in straight sets, but the match provided Ware County’s young players another opportunity to develop against quality competition.
Serving and passing consistency proved to be an area the Lady Gators will continue working to improve. For a developing squad, every opportunity on the court provides another chance to grow, build confidence, and prepare for future varsity competition.
Lady Gators Keep Moving Forward
Thursday’s results will not define the Lady Gators. Instead, Ware County will take the lessons learned from the evening and turn its attention toward improvement.
The Lady Gators have continued to compete despite injuries and lineup adjustments, and the focus remains on getting healthier, improving each day in practice, and being ready when region competition resumes.
There is plenty of volleyball still ahead, and the Lady Gators will continue working to put themselves in position to play their best volleyball when it matters most.
