The Ware County Gators made the short trip to Douglas on Friday night, August 28, for the annual Border War against the Coffee County Trojans. In a night that featured multiple lightning delays and interruptions, the Gators battled until the end but ultimately fell to the Trojans, 27-7.
Friday night's matchup brought together two familiar South Georgia football programs in another highly anticipated chapter of the Ware County-Coffee County rivalry. Unfortunately, Mother Nature played a major role throughout the evening as lightning in the area forced several delays and made it difficult for either team to establish a consistent rhythm.
Despite the interruptions, the Gators continued to compete each time play resumed. Coffee was able to take advantage of its opportunities and build a lead, while Ware County continued to fight to get back into the contest.
When the final horn sounded at Jardine Stadium, the Trojans had secured the 27-7 victory.
The loss moves Ware County to 1-1 in the 2026 season following the Gators' season-opening 22-21 victory at Bainbridge. With an open week ahead for the varsity squad, the Gators will have an opportunity to regroup, get back to work, and prepare for their home opener at Memorial Stadium.
