JESUP, GA - Thursday, August 27, 2026 - The Ware County Lady Gators Softball Team continued its Region 1-AAAAA schedule Thursday afternoon, making the short trip to Jesup for a showdown with the Wayne County Lady Yellow Jackets.

The Lady Gators battled throughout the contest, but an early Wayne County surge proved difficult to overcome as Ware County fell 9-1.

Early Deficit Challenges Lady Gators

Wayne County took advantage of several scoring opportunities during the opening innings to put Ware County in an early hole.

The Lady Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second to build a 6-0 advantage.

Despite facing the early deficit, the Lady Gators continued to compete and looked for opportunities to work their way back into the game.

Mattie Forsyth helped Ware County break through offensively, driving in the Lady Gators' run.

Natalie Pittman, Kara Coleman and Reagan Middleton each recorded a hit for Ware County as the Lady Gators worked to generate offense against Wayne County pitching.

Middleton Battles in Relief

After Teriayn Kirkland started in the circle for Ware County, Reagan Middleton entered in relief and gave the Lady Gators four innings of work.

Middleton battled through the Wayne County lineup and recorded five strikeouts during her appearance.

Kirkland recorded a strikeout of her own during the opening inning, giving the Ware County pitching staff six strikeouts on the afternoon.

While the scoreboard wasn't what the Lady Gators wanted, Ware County continued to compete through the final out.

Region Season Continues

Thursday's matchup was another early test for a Lady Gator team navigating a challenging schedule. With plenty of softball still ahead, Ware County will use the experience as another opportunity to improve and prepare for the next Region 1-AAAAA challenge.

One game doesn't define a season, and the Lady Gators will have an opportunity to respond quickly.

Up Next: Jenkins Comes to Gator Field

Ware County returns home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when the Lady Gators welcome the Jenkins Lady Warriors to Gator Field for another important Region 1-AAAAA matchup.

The Lady Gators will look to defend their home field, get back in the win column and continue building as they move deeper into region play.
