BAINBRIDGE, GA - The Ware County Gators opened the 2026 football season in dramatic fashion Friday night, making the long trip to Bainbridge and returning to Waycross with a 22 - 21 victory over the Bainbridge Bearcats.
It was a night that tested the Gators in more ways than one. Playing on the road against a tough Bainbridge squad, Ware County also had to deal with a lightning delay that interrupted the action. Through the weather, the delay, and a battle that came down to the wire, the Gators stayed focused and found a way to finish.
When play was complete, Ware County stood on top, 22 - 21, earning a hard-fought road victory and improving to 1 - 0 on the 2026 season.
Gators Find a Way
Season openers can bring plenty of challenges, and Friday night provided nearly all of them. A long road trip, a quality opponent, adverse weather, and a one-point game made for an early - season test for the Gators.
Ware County answered the challenge.
The Gators battled throughout the night and showed the toughness needed to come away with the victory. Winning on the road is never easy, and doing it in a game decided by a single point made the trip back to Waycross even sweeter.
Final Score: Ware County 22, Bainbridge 21
