The Ware County Lady Gators hit the road Monday, August 17, traveling to Brantley County for a JV and Varsity Softball doubleheader against the Lady Herons.

It was a tough night on the scoreboard for Ware County, but the Lady Gators continued to show plenty of fight at the plate. The JV Lady Gators fell 8-3 in the opening game before the varsity squad battled Brantley County in an offensive contest that ended with the Lady Herons taking an 11-7 victory.

Varsity Lady Gators Show Their Power

Brantley County struck first, pushing across a run in the bottom of the first inning and adding another in the second to take an early 2-0 advantage.

Ware County answered in a big way in the top of the third.

Teriayn Kirkland and Ella Musgrove both left the yard, providing the spark for a three-run inning that pushed the Lady Gators in front, 3-2. The pair of home runs highlighted an impressive offensive night for Ware County, which finished with 11 hits.

Brantley County responded in the bottom half of the inning, using a pair of run-scoring singles to regain the lead at 4-3. The Lady Herons were able to build on that advantage later in the contest, but Ware County continued to battle and kept putting pressure on the Brantley County defense.

The Lady Gators eventually pushed seven runs across and continued fighting until the final out before Brantley County secured the 11-7 win.

Lady Gators Collect 11 Hits

Despite the loss, there were several bright spots offensively for Ware County.

Kirkland led the Lady Gators at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, including her third-inning home run. She also got the start in the circle and worked three innings, recording two strikeouts.

Musgrove went 2-for-3 and drove in a team-high two runs, with her home run helping Ware County grab the lead in the third inning.

Reagan Middleton added a pair of hits in four trips to the plate, giving the Lady Gators three players with multi-hit performances.

Ware County's 11-hit attack was one of the most encouraging parts of the night. The Lady Gators continued to generate opportunities throughout the lineup and showed the ability to answer when Brantley County put runs on the board.

The Lady Herons finished with 12 hits and were especially aggressive on the basepaths, using that pressure to help create scoring opportunities.

While Ware County didn't leave Brantley County with the results it wanted, Monday night's varsity game showed an offense capable of producing throughout the lineup. With 11 hits, seven runs and two home runs, there was plenty for the Lady Gators to build on as they quickly turn their attention to another road challenge.
