August 11, 2026 | Ware County Gator Athletics
The Ware County Lady Gators Softball program hit the road Tuesday, August 11, traveling to Douglas for a matchup with the Coffee County Trojans. Both the JV and Varsity squads were in action, and while the Lady Gators came up short in both contests, the trip provided another opportunity for a young season to produce valuable experience.
The JV Lady Gators battled Coffee County to the very end, coming up just one run short in an 11-10 contest.
On the varsity side, Coffee County grabbed an early advantage and was able to build on it throughout the afternoon, handing Ware County an 8-0 loss.
Coffee Takes Early Lead
Coffee County struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning to put Ware County in an early hole. A triple followed by a run-scoring groundout gave the Trojans the initial advantage.
The Trojans added to their lead in the third, using a home run and a pair of doubles to create some separation.
Teriayn Kirkland got the start in the circle for Ware County and recorded three strikeouts without issuing a walk during her outing.
Offensively, the Lady Gators had difficulty finding a rhythm against Coffee County pitching. Kara Coleman recorded Ware County's hit in the contest, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Coffee County finished the game with 11 hits and took advantage of its opportunities to secure the 8-0 victory.
Tuesday's outcome was not the result the Lady Gators wanted, but the focus now turns quickly to another opportunity to compete — this time back home in The Swamp.
