WAYCROSS, GA - The lights were on, the stands were full, and Gator Nation was back where it belongs Friday night.

The Ware County Gators opened the 2026 football campaign on Friday, August 7, by welcoming the Brunswick Pirates to Memorial Stadium - The Swamp for a preseason showdown. Backed by an outstanding home crowd, the Gators gave their fans plenty to celebrate as they came away with a 21-14 victory over the Pirates.

There was no shortage of Green and Gold in the stands as students, parents, alumni, community members, and Gator supporters packed Memorial Stadium for the first football action of the new season. Ware County High School's faculty and staff were also on hand in a big way, helping create a tremendous atmosphere as the Gators took the field for the first time in 2026.

The preseason contest provided Ware County an opportunity to compete against a quality opponent, evaluate personnel in game situations, and continue preparing for the challenges that await during the regular season.

Although Friday night's victory will not count in the regular-season standings, it provided exactly what the Gators needed before turning their attention toward Game One.

And now, the road to the 2026 season officially begins.

NEXT UP: GATORS HIT THE ROAD FOR BAINBRIDGE

Following an open week, Ware County will officially kick off the 2026 regular season on Friday, August 21, when the Gators travel to take on the Bainbridge High School Bearcats.

Gator Nation is encouraged to make the trip and pack the visitors' side in Green and Gold as Ware County begins its regular-season journey.

For those unable to make the trip, there will still be multiple ways to follow your Gators. Live streaming will be available through the NFHS Network, while fans can also listen to the action on 105.1 THE KUB, your radio home for Ware County Gator Football.

Whether you're in the stands, watching online, or listening on the radio, make plans to follow the Gators as the 2026 season gets underway.

THE CHASE BEGINS

Friday night's win over Brunswick was the first step in preparing for what lies ahead.

Now, the games count.

The goal is set, and the Gators are ready to begin the journey toward a 2026 GHSA Class AAAAA State Championship.
