WAYCROSS, GA - The Ware County Lady Gators continued their postseason surge on Tuesday afternoon, defending their home courts at the Ware County High School Tennis Complex with a commanding 3-0 victory over Cartersville in the second round of the GHSA Class AAAA State Tournament.
With the win, the Lady Gators punch their ticket to the Elite Eight for the second time in the past four seasons, further cementing their place among the state’s top programs.
Ware County wasted no time taking control of the match, fueled by dominant performances across the lineup.
At No. 1 singles, Bailey Denton showcased why she earned Region Player of the Year honors, delivering a flawless performance in a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Denton set the tone early with aggressive play and precision shot-making, overwhelming her opponent from start to finish.
At No. 3 singles, Paislee Wildes demonstrated toughness and resilience, battling through illness to secure a strong 6-2, 6-3 win. Wildes’ determination and composure were key as she maintained control throughout both sets.
The decisive point came from the No. 1 doubles team of Kayleigh LeMay and Gracie Vickers, who sealed the match with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 victory. The duo played with confidence and consistency, closing out the contest and sending the Lady Gators into the next round.
Additional matches were trending in Ware County’s favor when play concluded. At No. 2 singles, Elly Blackrick had taken the opening set and was in strong position to extend the lead, while the No. 2 doubles team of Ella Beth Cox and Addie Bishop were also up a set and firmly in control.
The Lady Gators’ balanced lineup and depth once again proved to be the difference, as they continue their postseason run with momentum.
