WAYCROSS, GA - With the season on the line and a trip to the next round hanging in the balance, the Ware County Gators delivered when it mattered most, shutting out Walnut Grove 2-0 on Thursday, April 23, 2026 in the decisive Game 3 of the GHSA Class AAAA State Playoff series.
In a tightly contested rubber match, pitching and defense set the tone from the first pitch, and the Gators rose to the occasion behind a composed, two-man effort on the mound.
Ryder Kinnon got the start and worked through early pressure, settling in to deliver five scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered four hits while striking out five, keeping Walnut Grove off balance throughout the afternoon. Slade Sweat came on in relief and closed the door, securing the final outs and stranding any hopes of a late rally.
Offensively, runs were at a premium, but Ware County capitalized on its opportunity in the second inning. With runners in scoring position, Walker Hudson delivered the key moment of the game with a sacrifice fly that brought home both runs - proving to be all the support the Gator pitching staff would need.
Despite limited hits, the Gators made theirs count. Colt Cox, Isaiah White, and Keaton Holloway each recorded a hit, helping generate just enough offense in a game dominated by pitching.
Defensively, Ware County was flawless. The Gators did not commit an error and consistently made routine and difficult plays alike. Hudson anchored the effort, recording a team-high eight defensive chances in a standout performance in the field.
Walnut Grove was led offensively by Sean Martell, who collected two hits, but the Warriors were unable to string together enough offense against the Gators’ pitching combination.
With the win, Ware County claims the series and advances to the next round of the GHSA Class AAAA State Playoffs.
