WAYCROSS, GA — The Ware County Gators tennis team opened the GHSA Class AAAA State Playoffs in impressive fashion on Tuesday, April 22, 2026, defeating Eastside 3-1 at the Ware County High School Tennis Complex to advance to the second round.
The Gators were sharp from the start, earning decisive wins in key positions to secure the team victory and continue their postseason run.
At first singles, senior JV Manabat delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, controlling the match from start to finish in a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win.
Second singles provided one of the most exciting matches of the day, as Miles Smith showed resilience after dropping the opening set 1-6. Smith responded with determination, battling back to take the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3 to clinch a critical point for the Gators.
The deciding point came at first doubles, where senior Cash Carter and Landon Lingenfelter rose to the occasion. The duo played with confidence and composure, securing the match victory with a 6-3, 7-5 win and sealing the Gators’ advancement.
With the win, Ware County moves on to the second round of the GHSA Class AAAA State Playoffs. Opponent and match details for the next round will be announced at a later time.
The Gators continue to build momentum at the right time as they look to make a deep postseason run.
