The Ware County Gator JV and Varsity Tennis Teams hosted the Wayne County Yellow Jackets on Thursday in a key Region 1 - AAAA matchup, and the Gators delivered an impressive showing across all levels of play at the Ware County courts.
Junior Varsity Highlights
The JV Lady Gators put together a strong performance in exhibition play as both doubles teams came away with victories. The pairing of Callie Lewis and Izzy Tatum earned a win in their exhibition match, while Millee Denton and Hannah Hodges also secured a victory in doubles action.
On the JV Boys side, the doubles team of Tyler Bird and Samuel McDonner captured their lone exhibition set of the afternoon. In singles play, Baylor Peacock added another strong showing for Ware County, winning his exhibition set to give the JV squad a solid day on the courts.
Lady Gators Claim Big Region Win
The Varsity Lady Gators delivered a statement performance against the defending region champions, defeating Wayne County 4 - 1 in a pivotal region contest.
At first singles, Bailey Denton controlled the match from the start, cruising to a 6 - 3, 6 - 2 victory.
At second singles, Elly Blackrick battled hard throughout her match before falling in a tightly contested third-set tiebreak.
At third singles, Paislee Wildes dominated her opponent with a commanding 6 - 0, 6 - 0 win.
The Gators were equally strong in doubles competition. The first doubles team of Kayleigh LeMay and Gracie Vickers continued their outstanding season with a convincing 6 - 2, 6 - 0 victory. At second doubles, Addie Bishop and Ella Beth Cox closed out the match in dominant fashion with a 6 - 0, 6 - 0 win.
Gator Boys Continue Region Streak
The Ware County Varsity Boys also secured a 4 - 1 region victory, marking their fourth straight region win.
Both Gator doubles teams played a key role in the victory. The duo of Eli Cook and Landon Lingenfelter earned a straight-set win, while Bridge Little and Ashton Stormant also captured a straight-set victory to give the Gators control of the match.
In singles play, Miles Smith and Baylor Peacock each delivered dominant performances, both sweeping their opponents 6 - 0, 6 - 0 to seal the win for Ware County.
