The Ware County Gators Varsity Boys Basketball team saw its impressive postseason run come to an end on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, as they traveled to Jonesboro to face the Cardinals in the GHSA Class AAAA “Elite Eight” round of the state playoffs. The Cardinals defended their home court and defeated the Gators by a final score of 62 - 31, ending Ware County’s season just one step shy of the Final Four.

Jonesboro came out strong early and maintained control throughout the contest, capitalizing on key scoring runs to build momentum. Despite the deficit, the Gators continued to compete and represent Ware County with determination and effort until the final buzzer.

Following the game, the Ware County program expressed appreciation to Jonesboro for their hospitality and sportsmanship after the contest and wished the Cardinals the best of luck as they continue their playoff run.

Although the season ended in the Elite Eight, the 2025–2026 campaign will be remembered as a highly successful one for the Gators. Ware County finished the year with an outstanding 26–4 overall record and captured the Region 1 - AAAA Championship, highlighting a season filled with strong performances and memorable moments.

The Gators also made a deep run in the state playoffs, advancing to the Elite Eight and solidifying themselves as one of the top teams in Class AAAA this season.

Ware County Athletics would also like to thank the many fans who made the trip to Jonesboro and the countless supporters who followed and encouraged the team throughout the season. The energy and support from the Gator faithful played a major role in the team’s success.

With the season now complete, the Gators turn their attention toward the offseason as they begin preparing for the 2026 - 2027 basketball season, looking to build on this year’s success and continue the proud tradition of Ware County basketball.
