The Ware County Gators Varsity Baseball Team hosted the Lowndes County Vikings on Monday night at Gator Field, battling through a competitive contest before ultimately falling 13 - 8.
Lowndes struck first in the top of the fourth inning when Derrick Carter, Jr. lifted a sacrifice fly to score the game’s opening run. The Gators answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Seth Suess delivered a clutch two-run double to give Ware County the lead, and Collin Crawford followed with a well-executed sacrifice bunt to plate another run, putting the Gators in front 3 - 1.
The Vikings responded in the fifth inning, reclaiming the lead at 4 - 3 after a series of timely at-bats. In the sixth inning, Lowndes created separation with a six-run frame on four hits, extending the advantage and shifting momentum for good.
Offensively, Ware County was led by Suess, who drove in four runs on two hits. The Gators showed discipline at the plate throughout the evening, drawing nine walks as a team. Colt Cox paced the effort with two walks. Defensively, Ware County played a clean game without committing an error, while Walker Hudson recorded nine chances in the field.
On the mound, Slade Sweat started for the Gators and delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run over four innings while striking out six. Lowndes’ Derrick Carter, Jr. earned the win after working into the sixth inning.
Lowndes collected 12 hits in the game, with Hank Drew and Tyler Parker each recording three hits. Drew also drove in four runs to lead the Vikings’ offense.
Although the final score did not fall in their favor, the Gators displayed resilience, patience at the plate, and steady defense against a talented opponent.
