The Ware County Gator High School Bass Fishing Team kicked off the 2026 season in impressive fashion on Saturday, February 7, competing against a massive field at West Point Lake - and coming home with a State Championship qualification to show for it.
Congratulations to Brody Jeffers, Jackson Lee, and their captain Buster Jeffers on qualifying for the GHSA Bass Fishing State Championship. The Gator duo earned their spot at the very first tournament of the year with a strong 20th-place finish at West Point Lake, an event that featured 271 teams from across the state.
Fishing conditions proved extremely challenging throughout the day, making their performance even more impressive. Jeffers and Lee brought in a full five-fish limit weighing 9 pounds, 5 ounces, a feat accomplished by only 21 teams in the entire field. Despite the tough bite, the Gators stayed locked in, adjusted on the fly, and even managed to cull fish late in the tournament.
