The Ware County Gator Rifle Team continued its strong home stand Wednesday night, defeating Benedictine High School in a 3x10 air rifle match at the Ware County Shooting Range on January 28, 2026.
Ware’s A team captured first place overall with an impressive aggregate score of 1155 with 62 centers, outpacing Benedictine’s total of 1102 with 30 centers. The Gators set the tone early and remained steady throughout the match, posting scores of 386 in kneeling, 394 in prone, and 380 in standing to secure the team win.
Leading the way for Ware A was Camdyn Thornton, who turned in the top individual score of the match for the Gators with a 291 (16 centers). Gabbie Howard was close behind at 290 (17 centers), while Autumn Buskirk and Angel Hernandez each recorded scores of 287, showcasing the depth and consistency of the Ware lineup. Additional contributions came from Grant Johnson, Aniston Pittman, and Mason Briggs, all helping Ware pull away as the match progressed.
Benedictine was led by Logan Price, who posted a team-best 284, and the Cadets showed particular strength in the prone position. However, Ware’s balance across all three positions proved to be the deciding factor.
Ware County also fielded multiple additional teams. Ware C finished third overall with a score of 1066 (27 centers), paced by Zakyira Perry (273) and Macey Haddock (272). Ware B placed fourth with an aggregate of 1063 (21 centers), led by Nicholas Hensley with a 278. The Ware 4-H team rounded out the competition.
The Gators will be right back on the range on Thursday, January 29, 2026, when the Ware County Rifle Team hosts Groves High School at 5:00 PM at the Ware County Shooting Range.
