The Ware County Gators were on the road Tuesday night, January 27, 2026, traveling to Wayne County for a Region 1-AAAA basketball matchup with the Yellow Jackets. The night featured three hard-fought games, highlighted by a dominant varsity boys performance in the nightcap.
The JV Boys opened the evening and battled throughout but ultimately came up short, falling by a final score of 53 - 47.
In the varsity girls contest, the Lady Gators were locked in a tight defensive struggle that went down to the final minutes. Ware County dropped a close one 44 - 39, despite a gutsy performance from Bailey Denton. Denton poured in 16 points while stepping into the point guard role and playing through adversity, competing with a hole in her lip and an injured jaw sustained in Friday’s game. Her toughness and leadership kept the Gators within striking distance until the final horn.
The varsity boys closed out the night in emphatic fashion, pulling away for a 76 - 56 victory to secure a key region win. With the victory, the Gators improved to 19 - 3 on the season.
Balanced scoring fueled the win as Davion Jones led the way with 19 points, followed by Isaiah White with 14, Kevin Ramsey with 12, and Elam Jones and Ja’Londi O’Hara adding 10 points apiece.
