The Ware County Gators wrestling team took care of business Tuesday night, earning a pair of decisive dual meet victories while competing with a short-handed lineup. Ware County defeated East Laurens 59–24 before overwhelming Bacon County 63–6, despite nearly 70 percent of the varsity roster not seeing action.
The strong showing serves as a confidence boost as the Gators shift their focus to the GHSA Class 4A Team Duals State Championships this weekend.
Ware County will open its state tournament run against North Oconee, the No. 2 seed from Region 8. With postseason competition underway, preparation and execution will be key as the Gators navigate a challenging state bracket.
“The pathway set for our state run is favorable,” said Coach Williamson. “Our team goal this year is to reach the top four. We’ve had some tough duals this year, and now preparation is vital to how our performance will be. I’m fired up for the challenges and tests we will run into this weekend and the opportunities to compete against some powerhouse programs. Bonus point wins and limiting bonus point losses will be the difference in how far we go.”
The Gators are scheduled to depart early Friday morning for Ola High School. Wrestling will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Ware County expected to take the mat at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Fans who cannot attend in person can still follow all of the Gators’ postseason action, as FloWrestling will stream the entire event live. Coverage is available at flowrestling.org/live/223291.
