The Ware County Lady Gators softball team traveled to Nahunta on Monday, September 29, 2025, where they faced off against the Brantley County Lady Herons. The home team came away with a 10-3 victory, fueled by a big sixth inning that proved to be the difference.
Brantley County jumped on the board early in the first inning, taking advantage of a Lady Gator defensive miscue to push across the first run of the game. The Lady Herons extended their lead in the third inning with back-to-back RBI doubles by Sydnee Davis and Chloe Johns, making it 3-0.
The biggest damage came in the sixth inning, when Brantley County broke the game open with six runs on four hits. Reagan McLain doubled to drive in a run, Madison Walker drew a bases-loaded walk, Sydney Page scored on a tag-up, and two more runs crossed on defensive errors. Chelsea Turner capped off the inning with an RBI single, giving the Lady Herons a 9-0 advantage.
The Lady Gators continued to battle and put runs on the board late. Teriayn Kirkland and Ella Musgrove each collected a hit, while Kallie Lairsey drove in Ware County’s lone RBI of the contest.
Kayleigh LeMay got the start for Ware County, going 5.2 innings while allowing eight hits and nine runs, though only two were earned. She struck out one and walked three. For Brantley County, Chelsea Turner turned in a strong outing in the circle, striking out eight without allowing a hit or walk through four innings of work.
Offensively, Turner also delivered at the plate with two RBIs, while Chloe Johns led the Lady Herons with two hits in four at bats. Brantley County was sharp defensively, playing error-free softball behind their pitching staff.
With the setback, Ware County now turns its focus back to Region 1-AAAA play. The Lady Gators will host Wayne County on Tuesday, September 30, at the Gator Softball Complex. Junior Varsity will take the field at 4:00 PM followed by Varsity at 6:00 PM.
