The Ware County Lady Gators softball team hosted Cook County at Gator Field on Thursday and came up short in an 8-0 loss.

Cook struck first with a run in the opening inning, then added another in the second to build early momentum. The decisive frame came in the third, when the Hornets strung together six runs on a combination of timely hits and Gator miscues to take full control of the game.

Ware County starter Kayleigh LeMay worked two and two-thirds innings, giving up eight hits and eight runs, though only two were earned. She recorded one strikeout and one walk before handing the ball over to the bullpen. Offensively, the Lady Gators struggled to solve Cook’s pitching, with Ella Musgrove providing the team’s lone hit of the evening.

For Cook, the Hornets stayed consistent at the plate and in the field, capitalizing on scoring opportunities while playing error-free defense. Their balanced attack and strong pitching proved too much for the Lady Gators to overcome.

The loss drops Ware County to a regrouping point as they look to bounce back in their next outing. The Lady Gators will hit the road again on Monday when they travel to Brunswick for another non-region matchup.
