The Ware County Lady Gators hit the road Tuesday night for a key Region 1-AAAA matchup in Jesup, but came up short against the Wayne County Lady Yellow Jackets, falling 9-1.
Wayne County struck early, plating a run in the opening inning and continuing to add pressure throughout the game. The Lady Gators worked to settle in defensively but were unable to slow down the Yellow Jackets’ offense, which steadily built its lead over the first three frames.
In the circle, Kayleigh LeMay started for Ware County and battled through five and one-third innings of work, striking out one while walking two. She held strong against an active Wayne lineup that consistently put the ball in play.
Offensively, Ware County had bright moments in the middle of the lineup. Mattie Forsyth and Kara Coleman connected for back-to-back hits, with Forsyth driving in the team’s lone run of the night. Both players finished with one hit apiece, giving the Lady Gators a spark in the fourth inning. Ware County also executed a sharp double play on defense, a highlight in the field that cut short a potential Wayne scoring threat.
Despite the loss, the Lady Gators continue to show fight and resilience as region play moves forward. They’ll regroup quickly as they return to the Swamp on Thursday for a home matchup against Cook. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.
