The Ware County Gators Cross Country team welcomed runners from across the region on Thursday, August 28, 2025, as they hosted their first home meet of the season. Ten schools competed in the event, including Ware, Lanier, Brunswick, McIntosh, Brantley, Long, Valdosta, Bradwell Institute, Camden, and Appling.

In a competitive boys’ race that featured 125 runners, Ware County finished 6th overall. Leading the way was Wesley Frye, who set a new personal record with a time of 20:44 to place 21st. He was followed by Damari Bennett (30th, 21:13), Brock Payne (31st, 21:15), Lorenzo Harris (33rd, 21:16), and Damarion Zanders (38th, 21:39).

The Lady Gators also ran well, placing 5th out of 10 teams in a field of 74 runners. Destiney Mendoza paced the team with a 14th-place finish in 25:52, while Alaya McMillen (27th, 28:46), Millie Bennett (40th, 31:12), Kiyoko Ward (45th, 31:46), and Faith Williams (46th, 32:00) rounded out the scoring. Bronwyn Bennett also competed, finishing 71st in 43:30.

It was a strong showing for Ware County in their home debut, with both teams demonstrating growth and depth early in the season.
