The Ware County Gators football program saw both its Ninth Grade and Junior Varsity squads take the field on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in matchups against Coffee County. The 9th Grade Gators battled at Memorial Stadium in Waycross while the Junior Varsity team traveled to Jardine Stadium in Douglas.
9th Grade: Gators Fall in a Thriller at Memorial Stadium
In an action-packed contest in the Swamp, the 9th Grade Gator Football Team came up just short against Coffee County, falling 28-30 in a hard-fought battle.
Jimmy Taylor provided the highlight of the night with two rushing touchdowns, including a thrilling 95-yard sprint that electrified the home crowd. Quarterback Kieran Brown connected with Bryson Manson and Riyland Munford for touchdown receptions, spreading the ball effectively through the air. Running back Chase Cone added several big gains on the ground to keep the Gator offense moving.
On the defensive side, Jimmy Green came up with a key interception, while Marquez Jenkins and Jaylen Perry consistently pressured the Trojan backfield with multiple tackles for loss.
Junior Varsity: Complete Performance in Douglas
The Junior Varsity Gators put together a dominant all-around performance, defeating Coffee County 42-16 on the road.
Moo Moo McKoy led the rushing attack with two touchdowns, benefiting from an offensive line that controlled the line of scrimmage all night. Quarterback Ryder Gilbert was outstanding, tossing four touchdown passes. His scoring strikes went to Chaden Carter, Letarrian Hayes, Rykeil Kitchen, and Brandon Young, showcasing the depth of the Gators’ playmakers.
Defensively, Ware County made a statement early, forcing a turnover and limiting Coffee County to just a field goal on its first drive. The Trojans’ offense didn’t find the end zone until the final minute of the game, with their other touchdown coming on a kickoff return in the second quarter.
Special teams also played a major role, as Joel Cortez went a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points and consistently pinned Coffee County deep with well-placed kickoffs.
