The Ware County Varsity Lady Gators came up just short on Thursday, falling 9-8 to Camden County in a back-and-forth contest, despite out-hitting the Wildcats 10-7.

Ware County struck early, plating two runs in the first inning - one on a groundout from Kallie Lairsey and another on a Camden County miscue. The Wildcats answered in the third, using a three-hit rally to push across five runs and take a 5-2 lead.

The Lady Gators roared back in the fifth inning, stringing together six hits to score five runs and reclaim a 7-5 advantage. The highlight of the frame came from Kara Coleman, whose clutch double drove in two.

Camden County responded in the sixth, scoring three runs to move back in front for good. Ware County added one more run late but couldn’t close the gap.

At the plate, Ashlyn Jacobs, Amberley Padgett, and Kayleigh LeMay each tallied two hits for the Lady Gators, while Coleman and Mattie Forsyth drove in two runs apiece.

In the circle, Kayleigh LeMay worked six and two-thirds innings, striking out five and limiting the Wildcats to seven hits.

The Lady Gators will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action in Cordele on Saturday 8/16/2025 against Bainbridge at 11: 30 AM and then again against Dodge County with a first pitch set for 1:30 PM.
