England Tribute

At the July Board Meeting, we honored two extraordinary individuals whose quiet leadership and unwavering dedication have shaped not just a program, but a generation of student-athletes: Coach Maurice and Mrs. Louise England.

In 1981, the Englands founded the Ware County Rifle Program, beginning with 4-H BB shooting and just a handful of determined students. Over the next 44 years, their humble beginning grew into a nationally recognized powerhouse, reaching over 700 student-athletes, with 22 earning collegiate scholarships to continue their education and competition.

Coach England’s leadership on the range has been nothing short of legendary: 150+ regular season wins, 30 undefeated seasons, and 16 consecutive region championships (20+ total region titles).

While he coached with excellence, Mrs. England managed the logistics behind the scenes, ensuring every practice, competition, and event ran like clockwork. Together, they raised over one million dollars to build and sustain the program, culminating in a state-of-the-art facility unmatched anywhere in the nation.

But the true mark of their success isn’t found in medals—it’s in the character of the program they built: one rooted in discipline, teamwork, and integrity. They didn’t just coach a sport—they cultivated a family and a future.

A plaque has been dedicated in their honor, a lasting symbol of gratitude from all who have been touched by their service. Special thanks to Robbie Roberson, Mr. John Davis, and the Ware County Board of Education for helping make this tribute possible.
