Senior Opportunities

  • 2024 Georgia Scholar Program - The 2024 Georgia Scholar Program application window is open from January 8-March 1. Georgia public- or private-school seniors may apply provided they meet all criteria outlined by the Georgia Scholar Program.

     

    Through the Georgia Scholar program, GaDOE identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life. Each Georgia Scholar receives a seal for his or her diploma. Georgia Scholar is a recognition-only program.  No scholarship funds are associated with this program.

  • Exchange Club Student of the Month - Applications are available now. Check your email for application or pick one up outside of Ms. Penlands office. Applications are due to Mrs. Penland's office by September 6, 2023 at 3:00 PM

  • United States Presidential Scholars Program - The U.S. Presidential Scholar Program, established in 1964, recognizes exceptional high school seniors in academics, visual and performing arts, and career and technical educational fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. The U.S. Presidential Scholar is a recognition-only program and no scholarship funds are associated with this award. Any high school senior may complete the application, provided they meet all program qualifications outlined by the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The student informational brochure includes information on the application criteria and the two required essays.  Applications are due by November 1 at 5:00 p.m

August Deadlines

  • Dr. Vidal Sheen Scholarship for Medical Students - Dr. Vidal Sheen is a medical doctor based in St. Louis, MO.  He wants to help the next generation of medical doctors in the United States, and would like to give back through the Dr Vidal Sheen Scholarship for Medical Students. This scholarship is available for students in the United States who are currently enrolled in a university to study to become a medical doctor.  The scholarship is meant to help a deserving student with scholarship funding who wishes to become a medical doctor. A single student will receive the award of $1,000. Click here for application instructions. Deadline is August 15, 2024.

  • James M. Dye Scholarship - The James M. Dye Scholarship is for any senior planning to attend South Georgia State College. Click here for the QR code that will take you to the application.

  • Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program - Abbott & Fenner are committed to continuing our efforts at helping those who have the desire and ambition to succeed. The winner(s) of this annual scholarship of $1,000 will receive their award within 2 weeks of the listed deadline. All applicants should include their full name and mailing address with their submissions as well as the school they are currently attending. Click here for instructions and application.   • Donna Godwin Scholarship - Helping Hands Behavioral Solutions would like to honor one student that meets the following criteria for the $1000.00 Donna Godwin Scholarship: 1) Plans to major in psychology, 2) Obtains at least an 85 average or higher, 3) Plans to attend a college in Georgia.   • William T. Westhead Memorial Scholarship - The William T. Westhead Memorial Scholarship awarded by Waycross Masonic Lodge #305 in Waycross, Georgia. WCHS seniors who meet the eligibility requirements may apply for a one time scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00. Click here for eligibility requirements and application. Deadline is April 26, 2024,

  • Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship - Delta Sigma Theta is an international public service organization founded at Howard University in 1913. The Waycross Alumnae Chapter is one of more than 900 chapters in the sorority throughout the world. The purpose of the scholarship is to acknowledge the scholastic, service and community accomplishments of graduating high school students. Click here for eligibility information and application.   • Ware County Credit Union Scholarship - The Ware County Federal Credit Union is offereing a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior. Click here for application. Deadline is April 15, 2024.

  • Caden Musgrove Scholarship -The Caden Musgrove Legacy Fund will present a $1000 scholarship to one or more graduating seniors who embody the life and legacy of Caden. Applicants must be a Ware County High School senior, involved in extracurricular activities (sports, academics, and/or arts) have a minimum high school GPA of 2.50, and provide a letter of acceptance and proof of enrollment in a post-secondary college, technical college, or university in the United States.   • Bebe Mcquaig Scholarship - The Bebe McQuaig Scholarship is open to any senior who is pursuing a career in a health-related field. Click here for instructions and application. Applications are due to Trinity United Methodist Church Office by April 18, 2024.

  • Memorial Scholarship Fund - Multiple $500 scholarships are available to graduating seniors who meet the following criteria:  The students eligible for assistance must be graduating African American high school seniors who reside in Ware County and intend to continue their education at a technical school or four-year college or university. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need, and the student’s community service record. Scholarships will be announced on May 1, 2024, and awarded on  June 14, 2024, at the Juneteenth Memorial Scholarship Banquet. Scholarships are not renewable. Click here to complete application.   • Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship - The goal of the Julian and Jan Hester Scholarship is to assist deserving high school seniors in their first year of college and to promote community banking.  Funded by the Communitly Bankers Association of Georgia, four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. The scholarship is open to high school seniors who will be entering a Georgia university, college, or technical institute (if the program is two or more years) in the fall semester of 2024. Scholarship funds will be awarded to another student if the recipient does not start that semester. Click here for information and application.   • Ware County Federal Credit Union Scholarship - The Ware County Federal Credit Union is offering a $500 scholarship. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Click here for information and application. Deadline is April 1, 2024.

  • Spence Family Scholarship - The Spence family is offering a $500 scholarship to a senior graduating from WCHS. If awarded the scholarship, the Spence family will be in communication with the student and if the student continues with satisfactory grades, the family will  grant an additional $500 to complete the academic year.   • Marine Corp Scholarship - The Marine Corps League Chapter 1333 is offering a $500.00 scholarship to any senior who is graduating from Brantley, Pierce, Charlton or Ware County and is pursuing a college degree. The student must be enrolled or applied to a college. Click here for information and application. Completed applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2024.

  • Vietnam Veteran's Scholarship - The Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1070 is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500.00 to a graduating senior from Brantley, Pierce, Bacon, or Ware County who is pursuing a college or technical degree. The student must be a direct descendant of a Vienam Veteran, served in Vietnam from February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 OR on active duty from August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975.   • 2024 CPTC Foundation Scholarship - The Coastal Pines Technical College Foundation Scholarship is for high school seniors who have an application in process for Coastal Pines Technical College. Click here for application and instructions. Deadline is April 1, 2024.

March Deadlines

  • WHS Decade of the Dawgs Scholarship - Waycross High School Alumni classes of 1970-1994 is offering a scholarship to a senior at Ware County High School. Recipient must have a GPA of 2.8 or better and must be attending or planning to attend a college or university. Click here for instructions and application. To be considered, the application must be received by March 31, 2024.

  • Dewey Durrence Scholarship for Education and Healthcare - Click here for requirements, instructions, and application for the Dewey Durrance Education Scholarship.   • Community Foundation of South Georgia Scholarships - The CFSGA is offering scholarships to high school seniors. To apply, students must create an account. Click here for instructions and important links. Deadline is March 15, 2024.

  • Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Scholarships - The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture strives to provide students with an opportunity for success as they pursue agriculture-related courses of study. There are several scholarship opportunities available to students, each with varying criteria and eligibility requirements. Click here for scholarship criteria and eligiblity information.   • Retired Educator Scholarship - The members of the Waycross/Ware County Unit of the Georgia Retired Educator Association proudly offer scholarships to deserving seniors who have chosen to pursue the teaching profession. We offer this scholarship for a student attending Ware County High School. The amount of the scholarship will be dependent on the success of our fundraising, but we hope to provide $750.00. It is the goal of the members of the WWCREA to assist students as they pursue a future in the education field. We have dedicated our careers to helping young minds grow educationally and we are continuing that mission in our retired years. Click here for information and application.   • Waycross Fire Department Scholarship - The Waycross Fire Department will be providing a total of ten (10) scholarships in honor of the five (5) Fallen Firefighters of the Waycross Fire Department. The two (2) highest scoring applicants will each receive a $1000 scholarship. The next eight (8) highest scoring applicants will each receive a $500 scholarship.  The completed application can be given to Ms. Penland or submitted straight to the Fire Department.   • Satilla REMC Scholarship - The Satilla REMC Foundation will award four (4)-$1000.00 scholarships to each area high school within our service area, and five (5)-$1000.00 scholarships from a pool of private/home school applicants. Click here for scholarship suggestions and application . Completed applications should be taken to Ms. Penland. Deadline is March 15, 2024.

  • Robbie Roberson Built Ford Tough Scholarship - Robbie Roberson Ford salutes the students who are working hard to prepare themselves for a solid

    future. Just like our trucks which are “built Ford tough” and made to last---we know that today’s FFA

    and 4H students are working hard to prepare for their future. It is our privilege to recognize an

    outstanding agriculture student who has honed his/her skills through an agriculture project and

    exhibits the confidence, courage, and optimism to face life’s challenges head on. A scholarship in the amount of $2500 will be awarded to a student who is in the 12th grade and active in the agriculture program through FFA or 4H.

    Recipient must enter post-secondary education at a technical college, two-year college, or

    university during the fall semester following high school graduation. Failure to do this will

    result in forfeiture of the scholarship. Any major may apply. Click here for instructions and application. Deadline is March 29, 2024.

  • Marshland Credit Union Scholarship - Marshland Credit Union will award a $2,500.00 Memorial Scholarships to five (5) 2023-2024 school year graduates.   At least one of the five scholarships will be awarded to a graduating student who plans to attend the College of Coastal Georgia in the fall.

      Applicants for the awards must be a senior student of an Appling, Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Wayne or Ware County school who plans to pursue post-secondary studies.  Applicants must either be a member, or the son or daughter of a member in good standing of Marshland Credit Union.  Applicants will be selected based on academic achievement, school citizenship, and community and school involvement.

    The application package must be completed and submitted to Marshland Credit Union no later than Friday, March 1, 2024.

  • Share Health Scholarship - The Share Health Scholarship Fund was created to provide annual scholarships to graduating seniors from high schools and homeschools in the 16 county region of the Southeast Health District who show an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. Click here for information and application. Deadline is March 1, 2024.

  • Okefenokee Swamp Park Science Scholarship - The Okefenokee Swamp Park Inc., in an effort to support a graduating senior who is planning to pursue a postsecondary degree in one of the Biological/Physical Sciences or Science Education will award a $1,000 scholarship in the spring of 2024 to the selected student from each of the Okefenokee RESA area school districts. Additionally, the OSP Scholar will receive a "Lifetime Pass" for entrance into the Okefenokee Swamp Park. Applications have been sent to student email addresses or can be picked up outside of Ms. Penland's office. The deadline to apply is March 8, 2024.

  • Make Your Mark Scholarship - Corner Market Antiques created the Make your Mark Scholarship to assist graduates in pursuing their dreams. Three scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $500 each. Applications are open to seniors enrolled at Ware, Pierce, or Brantley County High School. Applications can be obtained from and returned to the guidance department of these schools. Click here for information. Deadline is March 31st, 2024.

January Deadlines

  • OREMC Scholarship - Okefenokee REMC Scholarship program annually awards 10 scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each. Applicants for the OREMC Scholarships must reside in one of the eight counties included in OREMC’s service area: Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, Ware or Wayne counties in Georgia; Baker or Nassau county in Florida. Applicants for the OREMC Scholarship are not required to reside in a household served by OREMC. Students of OREMC employees are also eligible. The OREMC Scholarship funds may be used at any accredited college, university, or technical school (not restricted to Georgia) in the U.S. Applicants may be either a high-school senior or an undergraduate college or vocational/technical student. Non-traditional students are also eligible to apply. Click here for application and instructions. The completed application and all required documentation must be completed and submitted by 5 pm on January 29, 2024.

  • RYAM (formerly Rayonier Advanced Materials) Scholarship - RYAM is offering multiple $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors interested in studying engineering or business. They are also offering multiple $3,000 scholarships for technical /trade students who are enrolled in a relevant trade program (See flyer).  To apply please visit https//aim.applyists.net/RYAM/ . Applications will open on October 5, 2023 and will close at midnight on January 5, 2024. Please see attached flyer with more information. 

  • Center High School Black Historical Museum Scholarship - This scholarship is for graduating seniors who have excelled academically and contributed their talents to the improvement of the community. Click here for information and application.

December Deadlines

  • The Hagan Scholarship - The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide recipients with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free. Applicants must attend a traditional public high school governed by a school district. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. Recipients graduating college while in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship good for up to four additional consecutive semesters.   • SGHG High School Scholarship - The South Georgia Healthcare Group (SGHG) is pleased to offer scholarship awards ranging from $250 to $1,000 to high school seniors who live in the eighteen (18) county service area of Region 11 and are entering a healthcare related pathway. Open application period: 10/1/2023 - 11/30/2023

October Deadlines

  • Coca Cola Scholars Program Scholarship - This is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 35th class in 2023 the Foundation has provided over 6,750 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $81 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. The 2024 application is now open here for students who will graduate druing the 2023-2024 academic year. The deadline to apply is Monday, October2 , 2023 by 5:00 PM.

  • Heisman High School Scholarship - The Heisman High School Scholarship is proud to continue its 28-year tradition of honoring the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors and supporting high school academic and athletic programs across the country. The program recognizes and rewards male and female high school seniors who accomplish tremendous feats in the classroom, on the field, and most importantly, within their communities. Go to  heismanscholarship.com to apply before the October 17, 2023 deadline.

  • Voice of Democracy Scholarship - An audio-essay program that provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.  Each year, nearly 25,000 ninth through 12th grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. 

    The national first place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$21,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins at least a scholarship of $1,000. Before submitting your essay, read the rules and eligibility requirements, and find your sponsoring local VFW Post as applications must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31, 2023.
