School counselors provide a range of services to give students the knowledge and skills they need to be effective learners and achieve their academic, career, and personal goals. School counselors work in collaboration with the entire school community and are committed to the education and emotional development of all students. Services provided by counselors address academic, personal/social, and career and post-secondary development.
Parental permission is not required for students to see the counselor or to participate in classroom guidance activities. Often times the focus of the counseling activity centers on problem solving, decision making, and goal setting as the student and counselor work together towards college and career readiness.
School counselors do not take the place of private therapists and cannot provide long-term therapy for students. Parents, teachers, and students can initiate a referral to the school counselor. For additional information, contact the Student Services Department.
