Safety Updates – Arrival and Dismissal Policy for Center Elementary

In order to maintain an orderly school environment, to increase our campus security and safety, and to increase student learning time, Center Elementary has implemented strict policies and procedures for student arrival and dismissal. Safety is and will always be our top priority when it comes to students arriving and being dismissed from our school. We hope that these policies and procedures are a safe and efficient experience for all parents, staff, and students.

Parents are allowed to walk their students to their classrooms for the first three days of school. On Thursday, August 1st, Friday, August 2nd, and Monday, August 5th, you will be allowed to walk your child to their homeroom. After Monday, August 5th, you will not be permitted inside the school building due to safety measures needing to be in place by that time.

Parents are to remain in their vehicles at all times. Do not enter the building during arrival or dismissal times unless it is necessary to escort the student to your vehicle because of an emergency situation. ***** Please note that we will not be doing student walkups during our arrival and dismissal times that have been in previous years. *******

Notification of a change to a student’s normal dismissal routine MUST be received by the classroom teacher and main office in writing.

There will be no departures for early dismissals between 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. If a student has an early dismissal, please ensure that he or she is picked up prior to 1:45 p.m. If a student is not picked up before 1:45 p.m. then the parent/guardian or the person designated to pick up the student must wait until the regular dismissal of the student to the bus or car.

Our students are not permitted to enter the building prior to 7:00 a.m. No student should ever be dropped or released from your car prior to this time. Only release your child from your car when an adult is present on official car duty supervision. All students are required to enter the building through the main entrance/cafeteria doors of the school. Please have your child exit on the passenger side of the vehicle to help with car duty supervision. Breakfast is only served from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

All students are considered tardy if they arrive after 7:44 a.m. If your child is tardy, the parent or guardian of the child will have to walk the child into the school and sign them in as tardy.

Parents should obtain a “pick-up decal” from the main office or your child’s homeroom teacher. The “decal” will display the student’s name and grade.

The decal should be placed on the dashboard/windshield of the vehicle as they enter the parking lot of the school. This will allow staff members to use their communication handsets to have the student(s) sent out to the vehicle in a timely manner and allow the car pick-up line to move quickly.

Parents should remain in their vehicles at all times during car dismissal.

If a decal is not displayed, you will be asked to park and enter the main office to show your identification. You will be given a parking decal and will be asked to return to the car rider line to pick up your child after dismissal is complete.

We begin first period at 7:45 AM, and our official release time is 2:15 PM.
