Great Expectations at Waycross Middle

Great Expectations at Waycross Middle

As the 2019-2020 school year opens, the faculty and staff along with students and families are expecting great things again this year. Waycross Middle will continue to focus on the four A’s that drive school success: Academics, Athletes, Arts and Attitudes. Principal David Hitt expects to send a group of twenty to twenty five students to Junior Youth Assembly and Georgia United Nations Assembly this year. Five outstanding students from this group attended a leadership training in Covington this year and sponsor Genevieve Barker knows these students will excel in their roles at Junior Youth Assembly. The Dogs will also send a large contingent to the district Tech Fair in December and have five students returning as
eight grader this year who won or placed second at the state Tech Fair last year. Also, two of the three district Young Georgia Author winners and the state runner up return to campus this year.

The Waycross Middle School football team and head coach Kevin Stevenson seek their fourth consecutive undefeated season and a fourth conference championship as they open play in late August. Coach Gibson and her 8th Grade Lady Dogs look to repeat as conference girls basketball champions. Boys track seek their fifth consecutive conference championship and the girls will try for their fourth in the past five years.

In the Arts, Band Director Brooke Richardson and Chorus Director Christy Markette will again lead their students in preparing for several concerts, a great Veterans Day program and Large Group Performance Evaluations in March. Over the last four years, Richardson and Markette have guided their musicians to superior ratings at LGPE and have had several students recognized as all region and all state performers.

The Positive Behavior and Intervention Support Team, led by Hillary Bishop will continue to drive the effort to ensure that attitudes of all stakeholders focus on positive growth and achievement. This team will sponsor our second BINGO night to raise funds that support our efforts to recognize and reward students and staff for making a positive difference at Waycross Middle and in our community.

“It will be another great year at Waycross Middle” stated Principal Hitt. “We have a solid group of outstanding veteran teachers in place and we have a few new leaders and staff coming on board this year that we know together will have a very positive impact on the four A’s in our school.”
