DAFFODIL, a full-time pre-school center, has become a flagship for Georgia, serving as a model for kindergarten programs throughout the state. Two curriculums, High Scope and Montessori, are in place at the center. The ultimate goal of the DAFFODIL pre-school program is to reduce the number of dropouts in the future by preparing children and their families for kindergarten and subsequent school experiences.

Family resource coordinators employed at the center provide services to over 280 families. Efforts are made to ensure that all families reach their optimal functioning capacity by helping them decrease their dependence on public assistance and by increasing their involvement in their child's education.

All teachers are certified by the Georgia Department of Education. Each classroom has a licensed paraprofessional, so student-teacher ratios are no more than one to ten. The Student Support team meets twice per week to discuss the needs of particular students who have been referred by teachers. A school psychologist and speech therapist are also available to provide services as needed. Occupational and physical therapy services are provided on-site once per week to eligible students.

In addition, children aged 4 and 5 years of age who have developmental delays may be eligible for special education services at the DAFFODIL. Center.  Five areas of development, including cognitive communication, social, motor, and adaptive skills are assessed. An individual education plan is developed to meet the child's special needs.

Recognized for excellence several years ago by former Governor Zell Miller and termed a "model site" by former First Lady Rosalyn Carter, the DAFFODIL Preschool Center continues to be a tremendous source of pride for the Ware County School System.
