The Engineering Pathway, taught by Casey Martin, underwent an
extensive, seventy-two item industry certification process during
the 2011-2012 school term. An industry certification site review
team consisting of Rick Moore, Engineering and Technology Education
On-Site Certification Coordinator for the state of Georgia; Dr.
Stuart Medley, CTAE director from Brantley County; Don Morgan, ETE
teacher from Brooks County; and George Vining, Drafting/CAD
Supervisor, Solid Machine Innovations, LLC conducted the review May
3, 2012.
After a three-hour review of the engineering lab
facility and equipment, curriculum being taught in the engineering
program, student work samples, and much more, the site review team
found that all seventy-two criteria were being met by the
engineering teacher, Casey Martin. The site review team also
expressed the following commendations: developing an instructional
program based on the state academic standards; providing multiple
examples of problem solving activities that include cross curricular
content; developing unit lesson plans such as the "Quadratics
Catapult" for the ETE program that includes STEM objectives, goals,
activities, and content; purchasing new technologies with grant
funds and other sources that enhance the ETE program and the
learning experience of students; creating a PowerPoint presentation
related to the ETE Program Certification Standards suitable for
district and community awareness functions; hosting one of the
premier STEM Festivals in the state; and using a classroom survey
that includes an evaluation of the teacher.
Rick Moore
expressed the following, “It was obvious that the school board
members, district personnel, principal, and you are very proud of
your engineering program and the entire school. Everyone on the team
was impressed with the overall program and the preparations made for
the visit. The organization of the documentation provided for the
review made the visit easy. The team found the instructional program
to be well equipped to serve students. The program at Ware County
High School has achieved the elite status of being certified by the
International Technology Education Association and recognized by the
Georgia Department of Education as a program of exemplary quality.”
