Ware County High School has released the names of the highest performing seniors in the 2012 graduating class. Zubair Akram, ranked 1st out of 307 graduates, has been named the schools' Valedictorian. Timary Blount, 2nd in the class, is the Salutatorian. Both will lead the graduates into Memorial Stadium on Friday evening.

Zubair Akram is the son of Dr. Mohammad and Mrs. Zahida Akram. He is the grandson of Aman Khan & Aziz Fatima of Waycross and Abdul Majid & Rafiqan Begum of Virginia.

Zubair’s Activities/Honors at WCHS include: WCHS 2011-2012 STAR Student; Georgia State Superintendent’s Advisor Committee; BETA Club Parliamentarian; National Honor Society Vice President; All “A” Honor Roll Award; Anchor Club President; Academic Quiz Bowl Team Captain; Future Business Leaders of America Region Winner/Business Math; Georgia Envirothon; National Society of High School Scholars; Waycross College Regional Math Tournament – Junior Varsity 2nd place; 2011 Valdosta Model United Nations, Distinguished Delegate; Georgia Certificate of Merit Award; Lions Club Academic Honor Society; Presbyterian College Scholarship.

Also 2011 Governor’s Honors Program Participant in Social Studies; Satilla REMC Washington Youth Tour Delegate; National History Bee and Bowl-Top Ten Winner; Extemporaneous Speaking, 1st Region; NAACP Regional Essay Contest, 1st place.

Zubair has been involved in a number of community activities including: Mary Street Mission; Advisory Council Member for Senior Charity projects; Special Olympics; Somalian Relief Fund Organizer; Car Safety Speaker at elementary schools; Red Ribbon Week Volunteer; Satilla Regional Medical Center Volunteer; Canned Food Drive helper/organizer; Anchor Club distributor of blankets to cancer patients; Student tutor grades 9th – 12th ; SAT/ACT mentor for high school students.

After graduation from Ware County High School, Zubair plans to attend Duke University to major in political science or business administration. After obtaining his Ph.D, Zubair would like to return to South Georgia with aspirations of having a career in an area of policy making or even state level politics.

Timary Lee Blount, salutatorian, is the daughter of Timothy and Kim Blount. She is the granddaughter of Tommy and Marlene Blount of Waycross. Timary’s Activities/Honors at WCHS include: BETA Club, National Honor Society, All “A” Honor Roll, WCHS Golden Gator Band Marching Band, University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, AP Scholar with Honors, Waycross Bank & Trust Jr. Board of Directors, Leadership Class, Future Business Leaders of America, Math Team, Alpha Delta Science Club, WCHS Soccer Captain, All-Region Soccer, WCHS Homecoming Court.

Timary has been involved in a number of community activities including: Special Olympics, Mary Street Mission, Miracle League, Operation Christmas Child, Food Drive at Fairgrounds, Senior Citizens Awareness Project, Red Ribbon Week, YMCA Reindeer Run, Mentored Elementary and Middle School Student, March of Dimes, Concerted Services Food Distribution, MDS Foundation Donor. After graduation from Ware County High School, Timary plans to attend the University of Georgia to major in Biology. Her long range career goal is to be a dentist.
