are eligible to become a member of the Health Plan if you fall into one of
teacher who is employed in a professionally certificated capacity, provided
that he or she works half time or more (but not less than 18 hours a week) and
is not considered a temporary employee or an emergency employee.
A service employee of
a local school system who is employed in a non-certificated position, who is
eligible to participate in the Teachers Retirement System or its local
equivalent, and who works at least 60% of the time necessary to carry out the
duties of the position (but not less than 20 hours a week).
An employee who is
eligible to participate in the Public School Employees Retirement System as
defined on page 40-10 of this handbook and who works at least 60% of the time
necessary to carry out the duties of the position (but not less than 15 hours
Board of Education pays a percentage of the certificated employee’s state
salary for its share of State Merit Insurance coverage and a flat monthly
amount per employee for all other staff.
The employee is responsible for paying the premium according to the
type of coverage selected.
employees must apply for coverage within 30 days of beginning employment.
If you join the health plan during the first 15-day enrollment
opportunity, your coverage will go into effect on the first day of the
calendar month after you complete one full month of service.
If you are not employed and actively at work on the first scheduled
workday of that month, your benefits cannot begin on the first day of the next
month. You must wait till the
first day of the following month.
current employees open enrollment is mid April to mid May with coverage and
change in coverage becoming effective July l.
The first deduction will be made from the June 30 check.
