Waycross Middle School FACS Class Learns the Importance of Financial Planning

On Thursday, September 22, 8th grade Waycross Middle FACS (Family and Consumer Science) students received a valuable lesson on the importance of financial planning now, while they are young.  Mrs. Laura Lott’s 8th grade class has been studying Consumer Finance. Special guest Patrick Hayman, Assistant Vice President/Investment Officer at BB&T, visited the class and spoke to students about the importance of creating and sticking to a budget. He actively involved the kids in making choices on purchases by having them figure out which option was the best financially. He also addressed the importance of avoiding credit card debt, accounting for variable and non variable expenses, types of credit, and setting long and short term financial goals.

Mr. Hayman left the kids with a quote from famous American businessman, author, radio host, television personality, and motivational speaker Dave Ramsey: “Live like no one else now, so later you can live like no one else.”  The Ware County School System is grateful for community leaders who are willing to take time out of their lives to help educate the future of Waycross. David Hitt is the Principal at Waycross Middle School.
