US84/Valdosta Hwy/Minnesota Ave. Construction Update

US84/Valdosta Hwy/Minnesota Ave. Construction Update:

The Ware County Board of Education is advising motorists traveling to Ruskin Elementary and Ware County High School that US84 remains an active work zone. Please be alert as you travel through the area, expect reduced speed limits, lane shifts, and closures, and allow for delays.

From the newly constructed US84, there are six access points to Ruskin Elementary, including (from east traveling west on US84) New Mexico Ave.,5th St., the newly constructed East Connector, 11th St., Needham Rd., and the newly constructed West Connector, which will not open until approximately August 1st. Street names will not be visible until all construction is complete, however “turn here” signs will be posted to assist motorists in locating the school.

Students traveling from Waycross to Ruskin Elementary should use New Mexico Ave. (at the Flash Foods) or the East Connector (just past Earl’s Mobile Home Park), while those traveling from the Manor area to Ruskin Elementary should use Needham Rd. or the West Connector, once it opens.

Construction is still active at and approaching the intersection of US84 and Wadley Rd. Motorists should expect lane shifts as the road narrows towards the intersection. Students traveling from the west towards the high school are encouraged to use New Mexico Ave. to turn right on Wadley Rd. or to turn left directly onto Wadley Rd. at the US84/Wadley Rd. intersection rather than using the main Victory Dr. entrance. Exiting Victory Dr. onto US84 will be "left turn only" during afternoon release.

If you have questions regarding this work zone alert, please contact Ware County High School at (912) 287-2351 or Ruskin Elementary at (912) 287-2325. We look forward to seeing you at Open House Monday, July 30th, and on the first day of school Thursday, August 2nd.
