Ruskin Elementary is proud to announce that it has advanced towards STEM Certification! Ms. Felicia Cullars, STEM/STEAM Program Specialist from the Georgia Department of Education, conducted an on-site preliminary review of Ruskin’s Environmentally Aware STEM project and approved the school to begin the STEM certification process.
Through STEM activities and lessons, students are actively learning to care for plants grown in raised plant beds and the school's greenhouse, manage a schoolwide recycling program, and design and engineer alternative-fueled recycled cars. Students are learning about careers in landscaping, plant inspecting, pest management, marketing, recycling, financial advising, designing, and engineering.
According to Principal Donna Solomon, who is a former CTAE instructor and night school supervisor, "It is never too early to prepare young minds with 21st century skills needed in today’s global economy." Solomon thanks the many teachers, parents, businesses, sponsors, and supporters who have helped make Ruskin Elementary’s STEM project a success.
