Waycross, Georgia March 13, 2018 - Disney’s The Lion King KIDS is playing at Memorial Drive Elementary School on May 17, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. and May 18, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. The 35-minute musical, designed for elementary and middle-school aged performers, is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film. The third through fifth grade cast contains approximately 30 students led by teachers Papani Saini and John Weaver.
“It has been a joy to watch the students come alive on stage. Their talent roars as they sing, act, and dance in the African Savannah,” says director Papani Saini.
The Lion King KIDS tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and loveable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands , Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar. The Lion King KIDS features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award®-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.
A performance of Disney’s The Lion King KIDS is open to the public at Memorial Drive Elementary school on May 17, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. and May 18, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students, and no charge for MDES students and children 2 and under.
